The Curriculum

We have high standards and expectations at Stanley Park and encourage each and every child to develop to their full potential. We therefore aim to provide a curriculum which facilitates this. Our most recent OFSTED report praised the school, saying that it

“Puts pupils at the centre of its work so they feel valued, secure and confident” and that we “maintain and constantly strive to improve high levels of pupils` attainment”. (May 1999)

Each subject that makes up the National Curriculum has an agreed Policy and Scheme of Work in place, which details the aims of the subject and the areas of study, skills and aptitudes to be taught. These schemes are planned by staff at the school who have a special expertise in the subject area and are matched to the requirements of the National Curriculum and the needs of pupils in the school. They are regularly reviewed and updated.

Parents are sent copies of the Long Term Plans at the start of each Academic Year – copies are always available from the Office. The presentation of the National Curriculum will be broad, balanced and relevant, providing for individual needs while promoting both independent and co-operative learning. Through our Teaching and Learning Policy it is our aim that every child achieves the highest possible standard of numeracy and literacy.

We also aim to:
* Establish a well organised and stimulating environment within the school
* To implement the appropriate resources necessary to independent learning.
* Encourage pupils to set up and share displays of their own work which reflect the value given to the work - its quality and sensitivity, stimulus and originality.
* Create challenges and experiences relevant to our pupils individual needs.
* Establish consistency and progression in structured approaches to teaching and learning throughout the four year groups in Key Stage 2 (7-11)
* Encourage pupils to examine, question and discuss with confidence, any concerns with their teachers.
* Establish activity based learning and first hand experience both within and outside the framework of the National Curriculum.
* With the support of pupils and parents - establish clearly defined codes of behaviour.

{All parents are requested to support our Code of Behaviour Policy by signing a Contract when their children are admitted to the school - a copy of the Code is included in the Brochure}
