Mini Mentors

Mini Mentors are children from Years 4, 5 and 6 who have been trained to help other children in the school to:

  • Make friends
  • Resolve conflicts
  • Have more enjoyable playtimes
  • All  without the help of an adult.

With the aid of a Mini Mentor, we hope that children will then be able to deal with friendship issues completely independently, and so learn a useful life skill.

Each year, children who would like to become a Mini Mentor complete an application form. Once chosen, all Mini Mentors attend training sessions which equip them with the skills to become a Mini Mentor.

Mini Mentors attend a club once every fortnight in which they feed back on any important issues and complete projects to continue to improve their skills. They then take these issues and pass them on to their year group during their own Year Group assembly. Mini Mentors also play a key role during whole school assemblies and regularly take charge of a display board in the school so that others know who they are and how they can help.

In the playground, Mini Mentors wear Hi-Viz jackets so that they can be easily recognised and approached by other children when help is needed. They also have a log book in which they record the names of any children they have helped so that further actions can be taken to ensure that all children are having fun playtimes.
