Special Education Needs & Disabilities (SEND)

At Stanley Park Junior School we are committed to providing an inclusive education where there is equality of opportunity and where every child has equality of opportunity and can achieve their potential, including those identified as having a Special Educational Need and/or Disability (SEND). We pride ourselves on offering a well-rounded education that supports pupils’ academic progress and personal development.

The Special Educational Needs and Disability Code of Practice: 0 to 25 years (2014) provides statutory guidance for organisations working with children and young people with SEND. Children are identified as having special educational needs when they have a learning difficulty that requires provision beyond what is ordinarily available in school. According to the Code of Practice, pupils with SEND may have learning, communication, physical, social, emotional or mental health needs that create barriers to achieving expected outcomes compared with their peers. These needs can affect how children access learning, participate in school life and make progress, meaning they require tailored support to help them succeed.

You will also find a link to the London Borough of Sutton’s Local Offer, which outlines the education, health and social care provision available for children and young people with SEND across the borough.

When considering whether special educational provision is required, we begin with the desired outcomes for the pupil, including expected progress and attainment, alongside the views and wishes of the pupil and their parents. This helps us determine the support needed and whether it can be provided through adaptations to our core offer or whether something additional or different is required.

Parents’ first point of contact should always be their child’s class teacher. SENDCO involvement will be agreed in consultation with the class teacher. Mrs Reeves, our school SENDCO, can also be contacted via the school office.
